PCB Considering Making Babar Azam Captain Again

PCB Considering Making Babar Azam Captain Again

PCB’s Deliberations on Team Captaincy:

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering reinstating Babar Azam as the captain of the national side. This speculation arose after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi mentioned in a recent press conference that the selection committee would decide on the team’s captaincy.

Babar Azam’s Possible Meeting with PCB:

Sources suggest that Babar, who recently returned to the country after performing Umrah, might meet with PCB officials before leaving for the Abbottabad training camp in Kakul.

Babar’s Decision Pending:

While Babar has not yet made up his mind regarding the prospective captaincy offer, sources close to him indicate that he would address several issues if he accepts the position.

Babar’s Resignation and Subsequent Appointments:

Babar had resigned as the team’s captain in all three formats following the team’s below-par performance in the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. Shan Masood was appointed as the Test captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi was made the T20 captain. The post of the ODI skipper remains vacant.

Uncertainty Over Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Captaincy:

Recent reports suggest that Shaheen Shah Afridi might lose his captaincy due to his unimpressive performance in the Pakistan Super League season nine (PSL 9). This change is speculated ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled for June.

Search for a Head Coach:

The national side is also in search of a head coach after Grant Bradburn stepped down from the post. PCB has approached former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi for the role.

Upcoming Series and T20 World Cup:

Pakistan is scheduled to play against New Zealand in a home T20I series, followed by away T20I series against Ireland and England. The team is also preparing for the upcoming T20I World Cup.
